Rockingham Beach Cup

Rockingham Beach/ Churchill Park

13 November 2016

The Rotary Club of Palm Beach (WA) inc. seeks to develop a community event that will provide an opportunity to showcase Rockingham’s natural attractions, provide economic development and act as a fundraiser for the Rotary Club and its beneficiaries, McCusker Alzeihmer’s Research Foundation, Varity Club of WA and Rotary Projects.

The Rotary Club of Palm Beach will host a Gala Dinner and Auction on Saturday night with the horse racing to take place on Sunday. In addition to the horse racing and dinner a community festival will be held on Churchill Park on Sunday.

The horse racing will be held on one of Western Australia’s most picturesque beaches with a back drop of Cockburn Sound, Mangles Bay, HMAS Stirling and its Navy ships and of course Rockingham’s Palm Beach.

The event is strategically designed to cater to visitors to Rockingham and locals alike, offering 3 unique event experiences. The exclusive VIP Launch Party, the family friendly community fair and the unique viewing experience of “The Marquee” overlooking the finish line on Rockingham Beach.

The Black Tie VIP Launch Party will be held at the City of Rockingham’s “Gary Holland Centre”. It will see our sponsors, supporters and guests dressed in their best cocktail wear enjoying a gala dinner, live and silent auctions with our auctioneer extraordinaire Tiny Holley and live entertainment throughout the night.

Sunday Race day will see “The Marquee” transformed into a fun, vibrant area with fantastic food and beverages and a perfect view of the race finish line.

Adjoining the beach is Churchill Park which provides a raised viewing area, shade from its many trees and an ideal area for the planned community fair which will feature local musicians, artists and artisans. This will be a free community event aimed at local families and day visitors.

With the event running over the weekend we aim to attract visitors to Rockingham, utilising local accommodation, restaurants, shopping and Rockingham’s unique tourist experiences.
As our goals include promoting the City of Rockingham to people from outside of the local area thus providing an economic benefit for Rockingham we will be promoting the event through various media with a heavy emphasis on social media. A “Gold Pass Book”, available for sale to the public and given to VIP’s, will include vouchers and promotions to attract people back to Rockingham over the following 12 months.

Gala Dinner and Auction
The dinner and auction will be the major fundraiser for the weekend and is to be held at the Gary Holland Centre on Saturday 12 November 2016. We plan to have 300 people in attendance for this dinner.

This will be a Black Tie event including a live auction, several silent auctions, a calcutta and entertainment throughout the night. Perth’s leading charity auctioneer, Tiny Holley has been booked for this event. The Gary Holland Centre is booked for this and as it is an indoors event does not need council approval. Information on this dinner and major fundraising initiative is provided to give a holistic overview of the weekend.

Community Festival
An artists and artisan’s festival will be held on Churchill Park on Sunday 13th November 2016. It is envisaged that this festival will include buskers, street performers, sculptors, photographers, wood turners, a black smith pottery and glass displays and local food providers. There will be a main stage with performers and cooking demonstrations throughout the day.
