National ANZAC Centre

An additional benefit to holding our District Conference in Albany is the many other points of interest in the Albany region, in particular those related to the commemoration of the Centenary of ANZAC.

The recently opened National ANZAC Centre is Australia’s foremost museum honouring the Anzac legend. Set within Albany Heritage Park, the Centre offers visitors a deeply personal connection with the Anzac experience. It has just been voted Number 21 in Lonely Planet’s best new travel experiences in the World.

It is located in the Albany Heritage Park, Forts Road, Albany. For more information go to www.nationalanzaccentre.com.au or Phone: 9841 9369.

Welcome to Delegates for the March 2015 District 9465 Rotary Conference.   Albany is a vibrant coastal community of 36,000 people and the commercial heart of the Great Southern and South Coast regions of Western Australia.   It is also the place of first European settlement in Western Australia with its magnificent natural harbours and coastline.   This strong sense of history continues today with fine examples of heritage buildings, a lively cultural centre hosting  a number of renowned festivals, as well as offering a warm and welcoming modern country town atmosphere.
Surrounding the City are some of Australia’s most impressive National Parks and spectacular coastlines with large numbers of nature based enthusiasts attracted to the clean and fresh environs each year.   The region is also renowned for its organically grown produce, award winning wines, and a burgeoning gourmet foodie scene that drives the Taste Great Southern annual festival.  Albany offers an impressive range of award winning accommodation experiences  from boutique ultra luxury private retreats through to larger capacity hotels located in the heart of the city centre and easy access to a diverse selection of hospitality options.

Conference Attire

Several delegates have sought guidance on what is the appropriate dress standard for the Conference.

Smart casual (no t-shirts or thongs) is recommended for the Conference sessions. Friday night is a Sundowner and a get together in a convivial atmosphere, so we suggest similar dress as the Conference sessions. The Saturday Night Gala theme is "Paint the Town Red". We encourage you to wear something red, even just an accessory. For the ladies "after 5" and for the men we suggest a jacket, with a tie being optional. Be prepared for cooler evenings in Albany at the end of March.

Registrations for the District Conference are coming in thick and fast. Don’t miss out on one of the highlights of the Rotary year. Visit the District Website Home page at www.rotary9465.org.au and Click!

Rotarian Ross Grafton (0417 174 934) is the registrations coordinator. If you have any queries please contact Ross at conferencereg@rotary9465.org.au. Please help Rotarians without access to a computer to register online if possible.

Thank you to all Rotary Clubs for nominating members to co-ordinate their Club’s participation in this very special event. Please keep the promotion of Conference at the top of each Club meeting’s agenda.
