Ross Smith Perpetual Trophy

SERVICE RECOGNISED: Ben Ostergaard holds the Ross Smith perpetual trophy, with proud wife Julie alongside.
BEN Ostergaard was presented with the Ross Smith Perpetual Trophy for the club person of the year. This is “one of the most meaningful awards our club gives each year,” said club president Rick Dawson, who handed over the shield.
“This award is special because it is not chosen by a committee, it is voted on by you, the members. It reflects the respect and appreciation we have for a fellow Rotarian who embodies the true spirit of service.
“This year’s recipient is someone who has shown outstanding commitment, initiative, and generosity throughout the year. This person’s contributions have been nothing short of remarkable.”
He told Ben: “You took it upon yourself to completely de-rust and paint the replica field gun at Point Peron — a tough job, done without being asked, and carried out with care and pride.
“You have been ever-present, the first to volunteer, always at our barbecues, helping out wherever needed, with a smile and no fuss. “You organised the cleaning of the mural wall and worked side-by-side with the artist to see the project through. And you did not just lend a hand — you used your own equipment and tools to get the job done, saving the club over $1700 in the process.
“You led the Danish hot dog stand at the Peel Winery with some of your spec-ial flair and enthusiasm — a brilliant success that added great character to the day.
“But above all that, you have made a quiet and lasting impact by reaching out to new members, taking time to make them feel welcome, valued, and involved. That speaks volumes about the kind of Rotarian — and person — you are.
“You have gone above and beyond this year, not for recognition, but because that is simply who you are. Your dedication, generosity, and humble service have made a difference.
“On behalf of the entire club, it is a privilege to present Ben Ostergaard with the Ross Smith Perpetual Trophy for Club Person of the Year. Thank you.”
