Kwinana Rotary Furniture Factory: Empowering Community Through Creativity

Mike Nella and John Iriks

Mike Nella and John Iriks, esteemed members of the Kwinana Rotary Club, recently visited the Palm Beach Rotary Club on a Wednesday night. Their purpose? To share insights about an extraordinary community project that has been making waves: the Kwinana Rotary Furniture Factory.

The Kwinana Rotary Furniture Factory isn’t just about crafting furniture—it’s about weaving together purpose, compassion, and community impact. Here’s what you need to know:
  1. Fundraising with Heart: Every piece of furniture sold at the factory serves a dual purpose. Not only does it contribute to the betterment of the local community, but the funds raised also find their way back through designated charities. It’s a win-win scenario.
  2. Compliance and Connection: By establishing the furniture factory, the Rotary Club of Kwinana ensures compliance with local laws. But it’s more than legalities—it’s about creating a positive ripple effect. The factory becomes a hub where woodwork meets community engagement.
  3. Location and Hours: You’ll find the Kwinana Rotary Furniture Factory nestled on Gentle Road, Medina. Mark your calendars for these open hours:
    • Thursdays and Fridays: From 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
    • Saturdays: Doors swing open at 7:00 AM, welcoming early birds and curious souls alike.
But wait, there’s more! This project isn’t confined to local boundaries. It extends its reach to wonderful international projects. One of the main beneficiaries of the funding raised is the refurbishment of schools near Jakarta. It’s a testament to how the Kwinana Rotary Club bridges gaps and creates lasting change.
The project traces back to PP Mike Nella, who initiated it during his visit to Jakarta in 2012. Mike attended a meeting with the Rotaract Club of Jakarta Metropolitan igniting a spark of collaboration. Soon, the Rotary Club of Kwinana joined the cause, excited to be part of the school renovation program.
To date, more than 13 projects have been completed, thanks to Mike’s unwavering support and the dedicated group of Kwinana Rotarians. And here’s the heartwarming twist: local community members are paid to assist in school renovations. This project exemplifies how Rotary is not just an organization—it’s a force for positive change.
